Sixth Week of Lent - Year A

Jesuit schools are widely recognized for their retreats, which lie at the very heart of St. Ignatius of Loyola’s vision of education. He believed that Jesuit education should form the whole person—body, mind, and soul—rather than focus solely on academics. Guided by Ignatius’s conviction that God is present in all things, especially within the hearts and minds of young men, Jesuit retreats invite students to slow down and reflect on their lives with purpose and honesty. During Kairos, young men come together to explore meaningful and often challenging questions about faith, identity, relationships, and their future. They are encouraged to listen deeply to one another, speak openly without fear of judgment, and recognize God’s presence within themselves, their families, and their community. Moreover, Kairos emphasizes the Christian call to “serve others,” reminding students that faith is lived out through action, compassion, and responsibility. For many young men, Kairos becomes a transformative experience—an important pathway that allows them to step back, refocus their lives, and discern what truly matters most.

In accordance with the TCDSB’s new pastoral plan, which seeks to harmonize our faith through family, parish, and school, the pilgrimages we offer provide young people with a unique and meaningful opportunity to encounter the hope that Christ has given to each of us. These pilgrimages allow students to step beyond the classroom and enter into spaces of deep reflection, prayer, and community, strengthening the connection between their personal faith and their lived experiences.
In addition, these journeys offer an extraordinary opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of the Christian faith by allowing them to see, touch, and experience firsthand the historical and spiritual roots of the Catholic Church. Walking in places rich with sacred history helps bring faith to life, transforming what is learned into something personal and tangible.
Ultimately, these spiritual journeys are designed to enlighten minds, inspire hearts, and deepen relationships with God and one another. Through prayer, reflection, and shared experiences, these pilgrimages foster spiritual growth and are often life-changing moments that encourage students to carry their faith forward with renewed purpose and commitment.

Continuing Brebeuf’s tradition of forming Men for Others, the “Brebeuf Boyz” travel every Thursday to downtown Toronto to serve meals to those in need at St. Francis Table. This meaningful initiative allows students to experience the power of loving and serving others through hands-on service, and it strongly reflects the values of our school community. The ministry of the Capuchin-Franciscan Friars and their partners is dedicated to building a faith community with the poor by providing direct services that uphold and promote human dignity. Founded in 1987 in Toronto’s downtown core, St. Francis Table now serves an average of 250 meals each day and has provided over one million meals to date.
