Basic Prayers

Prayer is an important part of Catholic worship as it provides the opportunity to communicate with God. The Catholic Catechism states, Prayer is the raising of one’s heart and mind to God or the requesting of good things from God (Catholic Catechism 2259).

St. Michael the Archangel Prayer

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, Who is all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Amen.

Morning Offering

O Jesus,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends,
and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father.

Amen.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me;
Body of Christ, heal me;
Blood of Christ, drench me;
Water from the side of Christ, wash me;
Passion of Christ, strengthen me;
O good Jesus, hear me;
Within your wounds, shelter me;
From turning away, keep me;
From the evil one, protect me;
At the hour of my death, call me;

Into your presence, lead me,
to praise you with all your saints,

forever and ever.

Amen.

Grace Before Meals

Bless us O Lord, for these thy gifts,
that we're about to receive,
From thy bounty, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Grace After Meals

We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits,
O Almighty God, who lives and reigns, world without end. Amen.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom God's love commits me here,
Ever this day, be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.

Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in battle, be our defence against the wickedness and the snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do thou, O Prince heavenly host,
By the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruins of souls.
Amen.
